The next content update for Fallout 76 will be released on March 3, 2026. This update will mark the end of Season 23 and the beginning of Season 24. Titled "The Backwoods", it's part of Patch 66. We've already seen numerous changes on the Public Test Server (PTS), and I've been able to show you a number of new Atom Shop and seasonal items. Unfortunately, this update doesn't include any new quests, events, or raids. However, several existing systems are being completely revamped, resulting in a better player experience.
Let's take a closer look.

Armor & Underarmor Changes

The weight of all armor has been reduced. Both body armor (e.g., Secret Service) has been reduced by 40-80%, and power armor by approximately 90%. Underarmor has also been reduced by 20-70% (e.g., undershirt & jeans to 0.46 and hazmat suit to 2).

However, with power armor, it's important to note that the chassis no longer supports the weight of the armor itself, but rather the entire chassis including all components. A power armor therefore weighs as much as the chassis and all the parts mounted on it. Damaged armor pieces will still have weight.

New Underarmor Styles

Underarmor now works differently, as the bonus special points are no longer determined by the underarmor type (Casual, Secret Service, Civil Engineer etc.) and the shielded mod. Instead, these types and the lining now determine the resistances, and the new style determines the bonus specials. This means your underarmor will initially have no bonus specials until you equip one of the new styles.

Perk Card Changes

Removing Legendary Perks no longer costs Perk Coins! You can now change your Legendary Perks as often as you like, completely free of charge.

The next step, if one could wish for it, would be the integration of Legendary Perks into loadouts, but that's not currently the case.

Blocker

Now reduces the damage from melee attacks slightly less than before. However, the damage is now reduced by active blocking, not passively. Thats not clearly visible from the description.

Blocker Perk

Fireproof is now Hardy

The Fireproof perk card has been renamed Hardy and no longer protects against fire damage. Since all armor now has fire resistance, this was unnecessary. However, the perk reduces explosion damage by 15% per rank.

Fireproof is now Hardy

Sturdy Frame

The "Sturdy Frame" perk has been changed and makes you more stable. At rank 1, you are 25% harder to stagger, and at rank 2, it's 50%.

Portable Power

The Perk card now has a 3rd rank, allowing you to move 30% faster while wearing power armor.

back to Index

RAID: Gleaming Depths Changes

The raid is becoming more playable and worthwhile again. The damage dealt by enemies has been slightly reduced. This means the EN-06 Guardian now deals less damage than before, increasing your chances of survival.

Stage 2 also sees damage changes: the Ultragenetic Mole Miner Stalker no longer hits as hard as before. Instead of 999,999 bleed damage in one hit, it now deals approximately 730 physical damage and 13 bleed and poison damage per second over 10 seconds, allowing you to survive the first hit. However, if it hits twice, it becomes critical. Bleed damage can only be reduced with Stimpaks, while poison damage can be mitigated with perks and legendary effects.

Increased Drop Chances

In addition, the drop chances for all stages have been increased (the chances are calculated from top to bottom and each subsequent section is further calculated based on the remaining chance, which determines the actual drop chance).

  • 4-Star Mods: 20% (instead of 10%)
  • 3-Star Mods: 30% (instead of 20%) Actual Chance: 24%
  • 2-Star Mods: 40% (instead of 30%) Actual Chance: 22.4%
  • 1-Star Mods: 50% (instead of 40%) Actual Chance: 16.8%

Pip-Boy: Performance, Perks & Plans

Performance

The Pip-Boy's performance has been completely overhauled. Numerous bugs have been fixed, and it's now much easier to use.

Plans

Attention! The plans are now located in the "Recipe Book" section of your notes, similar to how keys are stored in your keyring. Many players will likely be dismayed after the update, assuming all their plans are gone. However, this is not the case. Simply open the recipe book, and they will be there.

Perks

The perk effects have been displayed in the Pip-Boy for several updates now. However, they were all previously located under "Effects," requiring a fair amount of scrolling to find the desired perks and effects.

Now, the perks have their own section in the Pip-Boy and are clearly separated from the effects. This makes it easier to find active perks and the effects are much more organized.

Vanity Light in Photo Mode

Until now, lighting in Fallout 76 was always a bit tricky for taking photos. You had to find locations with just the right amount of light to get good shots. Anything in low light was kind of blurry.

A new feature in Photo Mode now addresses this: Vanity Light Styles.

The Portrait Vanity Lighting Style is available for free, and others can be purchased in the Atomic Shop. The initial Mood Lighting styles are Film Noir, Neon Blues, Runway, and Toxic Waste.

New Camp Titles

New rewards are available on the PTS for Patch 66: C.A.M.P. Titles. These are similar to player titles: prefixes, suffixes, and CAMP titles, which can be used for both.

CAMP Title: Sinkhole (Event: Sinkhole Solutions)
CAMP Title: Sinkhole (Event: Sinkhole Solutions)

CAMP titles can be selected next to the icon on your CAMP and are visible to other players, unlike CAMP names, which are only visible to you.

You can choose one prefix and one suffix for your CAMP title.

There are standard CAMP titles and there are CAMP titles awarded as rewards for events and activities. More information can be found in the article:

Improved Camp Slots

The CAMP slots now not only include the new CAMP titles, but are also more intuitive to use. For example, when you scroll through your slots, the map's center point always jumps to the current CAMP slot.

You can see this clearly in this short video:

Improved Vending Machine Display

The map's view of player vending machines has been improved. Previously, legendary mods were displayed alongside all basic mechanical mods. Now, legendary mods are listed separately, sorted by star rating.

Season 24

In the upcoming Season 24, titled "Cryptids from Outer Space," there are not only numerous new rewards, but you'll also be reminded more frequently about what you still need to claim.

Above each challenge, you'll now see the next reward you can claim. And with each rank you reach, you'll also receive a notification about the next available reward. This way, you're less likely to forget to collect your rewards.

New Atomic Shop Items

In some PTS datamining, we've already discovered new items for the Atom Shop. Some of these were even released in the "Mid-Season" patch. But there are still more interesting items. Here's a small selection.

You can find more preview images in the Datamining Articles:

Postponed: New Plasma Launcher Mods (Automatic Barrel)

New mods for the plasma gun were showcased and tested on the PTS. The new automatic barrel is particularly interesting. Additionally, there's a scope, a splitter barrel, and a burning breech. However, these mods won't be released in this update, but rather as rewards in future content in summer.

I mean... they won't be changing the movement speed from 120% to 150% anymore like is on the PTS? It's intentionally missing from the list because of that or was just a little oversight?
Thank you for listing all these! 🤝

Not sure if it was mentioned anywhere else yet, but after raiding a couple times last night, we noticed that we got a lot less caps as a reward compared to pre-update 04.03.2026 at 17:14:33
