How does terminal hacking work?
At each terminal you will find two columns on the screen full of random characters and words contained in them. To the right of the 2 columns is the result display. The words included are possible passwords. The character combination [] will reset your attempts. Each terminal has 4 attempts, after the 4th failed attempt the terminal will be temporarily blocked (you can still hack them with the "Computer Expert" perk). The higher the level of the terminal, the longer the words for possible passwords. For level 0 you don't need any perks, for level 1 you need the "Hacker" perk, for level 2 you need the "Expert Hacker" perk and for level 3 you need the "Master Hacker" perk. (Both perks are required for level 2, and all three perks are required for level 3) Alternatively, you can now use the legendary perk "Master Infiltrator", which can automatically hack terminals depending on your level, saving you time. The Master Infiltrator replaces all Hacker Perks cards even at the lowest level.
- First, select one of the passwords and activate it.
- Now you will see a message on the right side showing how many letters were correct.
- Now you can try another password. You should think about which letters match.
- If the second attempt also fails, you can now decide which one is still possible based on the previous matches between the letters and the password you were looking for.
- If the third attempt fails, leave the terminal once and start again, the attempts will be reset.
