All about Fusion Core Farming & Charging

All about Fusion Core Farming & Charging

Nowadays in 2022 / 2023 we as Power Armor players or Gatling Laser players in Fallout 76 have significantly more possibilities to get usable fusion cores and even to use them again and again.

There are the following ways to get full fusion cores :

  • Crafting fusion cores at the crafting workbench with fluxes
  • Manufacture of Gatling lasers without flux and by-product fusion core
  • event rewards
  • Fusion Core Use Generators on Power Plants (Capture Workshop)
Generator can make 8 per hour but can only keep 3 in the compartment. So if you take a workshop and want to farm fusion cores, you should stop by every 20 minutes for each power plant and take out the cores.
  • Buy from other players at vending machines
  • Find loose fusion cores (locations below)
  • Brotherhood Collectron (16% chance to farm ammo)

You get partially filled fusion cores

  • Farming loose fusion cores from generators
  • Farming from power armor in Appalachia
  • As a reward in Daily Ops (when you end up killing the boss with a Gatling Laser)
  • As a reward in Expeditions if you equip a Gatling Laser upon departure
  • Ammo Boxes (if you have a Gatling Laser equipped)
  • Some enemies also sometimes drop fusion cores

You can also do the following to reuse almost fusion cores:

  • Swaps an almost empty Fusion Core in a PA (Power Armor) for a full one
  • Reload the Gatling Laser before the fusion core runs out

You can use the following perks to save energy when using fusion cores:

Recharge Fusion Cores

We can now even load fusion cores, which, as briefly explained above, means that we can take empty fusion cores with us everywhere.
You can load fusion cores using the following methods:

  • Auto-Charge While Playing (Legendary Perk: Power Absorption)
Equip the Legendary Perk "Power Absorption" and your current fusion core will always be charged (and you will be healed) when you are shot at by robots with energy weapons.
  • Loading Fusion Cores with "Fusion Core Charger" ( Fusion Core Charger )
The Fusion Core Charger is included in The PITT Recruitment Bundle and charges up to 4 Fusion Cores in your CAMP. (Note: If you try to assign more than 4 fusion cores, they will be moved to your stashbox and not charged)

    • However, the loading process is relatively slow
    • For each 1% charge of the fusion core, the "Fusion Core Charger" takes 60 seconds, which means a full charge takes 100 minutes.
    • The charger is nice, by the way, if you've only picked up a few half-full fusion cores. For a large amount, it takes way too much time. Here you should rather use the method described below with the robots.

  • Bulk loading of a large number of fusion cores with 2 PAs
Equip the legendary perk "Power Absorption" and stand in a place with robots that shoot at you with lasers (eg Watoga, Mama Dolce, Vault 76 or similar) Now you
stand the other PA in front of you and insert an empty fusion core there. Then you get out of the current PA and into the one with the empty core. While the robots are shooting at you and loading your fusion core, you wait and put an empty core in the 1st PA again. Once the core of the current PA is fully loaded, you hop off and hop into the one with the empty core.
You can now repeat this until all cores are fully loaded.

Fusion cores in events

The following events contain Fusion Cores in the rewards:

  • Against the sound barrier (2 full cores)

Fusion Core Farming in Appalachia

You can now also collect from generators, power armor and loose fusion cores in Appalachia.
The following places are good for a farming tour:

  • Mama Dolce (shed opposite)

  • Fujiniya Spy Base (Generator)

  • Rusty Pick (Generator before Hornwright air cleaner on Rusty Pick)

  • Wv Lumber (inside + outside)

  • Arktos Pharma 3x (loading ramp, room above)

  • AVR Medical (under the cafeteria)

  • Charleston Capitol (basement: east wing flooded room, west wing other end)

  • Bleeding Kate's Grindhouse (Generator)

  • Hornwright Industrial Headquarters (elevator to the top)

  • Nuka Cola Kanawha Plant 3x (roof, generator room and next to it in cage)

  • Morgantown Airport (Bot Shop Hangar)

  • New River George Bridge west (under the bridge in the door behind it on the right in the pantry on the shelf)

  • Poseidon Energy Power Plant WV-06 (2x: Outside in workshop on table, and in basement behind locked door)

  • Transmission tower EM-B1-27 (on the control panel)

  • Riverside Manor (Basement on a table in the room with workbenches)

  • Wade Airport (inside the locked control tower)

  • The Sludge Works (2x in a basket on the pier) + PA core

  • Big Bend Tunnel (in the middle at the generator)

  • Palace of the Twisted Path (in the basement on a small metal shelf in front of the generator)

  • Solomon Pond (PA Core)

  • Dyer Chemical (Generator)

  • Huntersville (Generator)

  • National radio station (basement) (generator)

  • West Tek (Backyard) (Generator)

  • Lucky Hole mine (generator outside)

  • Exploration Camp Alpha (PA Core)

  • Watoga: AMS (PA core), town hall roof (PA core), transit center (generator + PA core behind closed door)

  • Blackwater Mine (PA Core)

  • Mount Blair depot (3x)

  • Camden Park (2 generators, one PA)

  • Brim Quarry (Generator)

  • Wavy Willards Water Park (generator in basement)

Conclusion fusion core management

So if you always collect fusion cores, take them with you from events, buy them from players (if the price is right) and make sure that you equip a Gatling Laser at the end of daily operations and expeditions, you will always have more fusion cores than you need. Simply charge the empty cores regularly, as described above, so you have more of them.
