All about the Enclave Plasma Rifle/Pistol and Mods

[Update 5th Dec 2023] Most mods are now available separately
[Update 10th Oct 2023]
Flamer Barrels now count towards the Commando Perks

Enclave plasma rifles (and pistols) are even more popular now that you can roll them with legendary effects . EPR (Enclave Plasma Rifle) is also often used as an abbreviation here. These weapons have a higher base damage than normal plasma rifles and pistols, but there are some special features that make them even more interesting.

Special traits of Enclave plasma rifles and pistols

  • Higher base damage than normal plasma rifles/pistols
  • Tradable (weapon and mods)
  • No plan for the weapon
  • No plan for mods
  • No way to learn the mods by scrapping
  • Weapon can drop at events (chance for suitable mods)
  • Weapon can be bought from MODUS in the Whitespring Bunker (chance for suitable mods)
  • Mods can be purchased from some vendor bots with a low chance
  • Mods can drop as event rewards with a low chance
  • Mods can be found loose with a low chance
  • Ammunition: Plasma cartridges or UItrazit plasma cartridges
  • Noise class: Loud (there is no silencer)
At events or in situations where you are spotted anyway, the Enclave Plasma can also be played well without the stealth bonus, and it does a lot of damage. In the open field you can also play stealthily and get the covert ops bonus when the opponents are far away.

Enclave Plasma Weapon Drops and Vendor Offers

Enclave Lost Connection events have a  30% chance of an Enclave Plasma Rifle or Enclave Plasma Pistol as a reward (100% chance of non-standard mods). At these events, if you get an Enclave plasma rifle or pistol dropped, you also have a chance to get one with a reflex sight.  You need a gun with a reflex sight if you want to optimize for VATS and roll a good version of the EPR legendary. The other Enclave events have no chance of these drops.

At Modus in the Whitespring Bunker (at the Production Terminal) you can also buy Enclave Plasma Rifles and Pistols with non-standard mods eg Reflex Sights with a 10% chance . The chance is significantly lower than at events, but checking the offer every now and then can't hurt, maybe you're lucky.

In the main quest "One of Us" you also have the chance to get an Enclave Plasma Rifle.

And the Scorched Enclave Officers in the Enclave Research Factory can actually drop Enclave Rifles as loot as well.

The Mods are now mostly all available separately as boxed mods.

Enclave Plasma Mods

  • Receiver: Changeable, mods present
  • Barrel: changeable, mods present
  • Stock: changeable, mods present
  • Scope: Changeable, mods available, for VATS build you need a reflex sight (since -15% VATS action point costs )
  • Skin: Poker Paint (Season 15)

As already mentioned, you should have an EPR with a reflex sight as a basis that you can continue to build up. Here you can now farm mods or buy them from other players in vending machines.

You can find the mods randomly and individually at the following retailers with a chance (0.081%-0.163%):

  • Watoga Station (watoga only has the adjusted flamethrower barrel)
  • Watoga Shopping Center (Phoenix) (only Watoga has the adjusted flamethrower barrel)
  • R&G station
  • Pleasant Valley Station
  • Pleasant Valley Resort
  • Berkeley Springs Station
  • Sunny top station

The offers of these vendor bots change for you every time you switch servers. So you can do server hopping (also on private in between) and farm the mods. Also, you should always drop by these retailers and see if an Enclave Plasma Mod is on offer. If the mods are on sale, they are listed under "E" because they are always described as "Enclave Plasma...".

You can also find loose mods . However, only in the Cranberry Bog (chance 0.014%-0.027%). Unfortunately, the Enclave events do not drop loose mods.

However, in the " Fly Swatter " event you have a chance (0.278%) of loose Enclave Plasma Mods .

The "aligned flamer barrel" mod is particularly popular . Personally, I prefer to play the automatic barrel or the aligned sniper barrel . The flamer does a lot of damage, but the range is worse than a shotgun and you use a lot of ammo. Ultimately, of course, it's a matter of taste. The auto barrel plays well for commando builds and as a rifleman the sniper barrel is suitable. The flamer barrel is one of the rifleman perks. You can also play EPR as a pistol build. Here you can also play the automatic / flamer barrel as a guerrilla build and the sniper barrel as a gunslinger build (single shot).

Aligned is always better for VATS AP costs. And depending on the mod, the required perks may change, as described above.

Legendary effects on the Enclave Plasma Rifle/Pistol

Legendary EPR only drop from events or enemies with standards mods. But since a lot of mods are nor separately available, these are barly playable. The only way is to farm and roll playable legendary weapons with the appropriate mods (or farm the now available mods separately), i.e. to put legendary effects on them yourself at the weapon workbench. Or, of course, through trade.

Of course, the combination bloodied is very popular here, +50% more damage with critical hits in VATS and 25% less VATS action point costs. Having this combo on an EPR with a reflex sight and aligned barrel (whichever) is definitely a godroll.

But vampire or anti armor are also very welcome. Quad only if not played with Flamer, as Quad it doesn't increase the magazine size in Flamer EPR. Quad on automatic is a good thing. As a 2nd perk, 25% higher rate of fire or 50% more damage on critical hits in VATS is the best. The 3rd perk is of course the most popular with 25% less VATS action point costs or 15% faster reloading.

Conclusion

If you fancy energy weapons (rifle or pistol), the Enclave Plasma is definitely the place for you. The high damage makes for good efficiency even when spotted. The precision and range are outstanding (except for the flamer). I can recommend the EPR for any build that plays with a rifle or pistol. Farming a good EPR is therefore worthwhile. It might even become your main weapon in Fallout 76. As long as you don't play the flamer, you can also collect enough plasma cartridges in the daily ops, expeditions and events. It will be tight with the flamer, you will definitely have to produce additional ammunition.

In order to farm a good EPR, simply always take the mentioned vendor bots with you on your daily trips through Appalachia and look for the mods there. And as soon as you see the Enclave Event "Lost Connection", you take that with you too. If you're lucky, you'll roll a Godroll weapon. Have lots of fun with it.
