All Cryptids in Fallout 76

All Cryptids in Fallout 76

Cryptids (originating from Greek κρύπτω / krypto and meaning "to hide" / "hidden") are mystical types of animals and creatures that appear in local folklore and other contexts, but whose actual existence is questionable.

There are a number of cryptids in Fallout 76. We have put together a list of all cryptids for you. This list is occasionally interesting, for example for challenges.

Kryptiden Liste Fallout 76

Mothman

The Mothman is a type of mutant creature from Appalachia named after a 20th century folklore figure. The Mothman is a giant insect worshiped by the Mothman cultists. There is still a prewar Mothman Museum in Point Pleasant.

You can find the Mothman either at the random encounter points (see map below), at the events "Path of Enlightenment" / seasonal "Mothman Equinox", as well as in the Enclave Research Facility (transmission station 1AT-U03) and also at the daily quest "Queen of the Hunt". Mothman hatchlings also spawn with cultists in daily operations.

Grafton Monster

The Grafton Monster, a cryptid associated with West Appalachia, is one of the incarnated West Tek experiments from the Huntersville facility. Based on the FEVS-006458 strain, researchers created a stable horrible mutation on October 23, 2077. The genome based on the Snallygaster strain was altered, creating a giant that destroyed the containment unit but remained otherwise stable (aside from the missing head).

The Grafton Monster spawns at the Charleston Trainyard, the Charleston Capitol Building, south of Hemlock Holes, occasionally in Whitespring and the Dry Lake in Toxic Valley, as well as in the events "Grafton Day", "Project Paradise", "Heart of the Swamp" (with 90% damage reduction), "Spin The Wheel" and also "Queen of the Hunt". You can find it at some “Primal Cuts” events during the seasonal meat week event.

Flatwoods Monster

The Flatwoods Monster is a floating creature with glowing purple eyes and the ability to abducting Wastelanders. The wandering storyteller shares details about the creature and warns that "its mere presence can warp the minds of all but the most iron-willed."

In the game, this ability is occasionally shown by the fact that other enemies in the game are covered with a purple glow and are controlled by the Flatwoods Monster, making them stronger. In this case you should always find the Flatwoods monster before dealing with the "controlled" opponents.

During combat, the Flatwoods Monster also teleports to different places and also regenerates health.

The Flatwoods Monster spawns (at night only) at Random Encounter points with a 2.5% chance (see map).
Tip: It spawns relatively often on the rock at Site Alpha's lake. If you specifically look for it, you can do server hopping in this location.

Other spawns include the events "Invaders from above" (seasonal), "Campfire Tales", daily operations (boss), as well as the dailies "Queen of the Hunt" and "Making Sacrifice".

The Flatwoods Monster is also an Alien and counts for those challenges.

Mega Sloth

The mega sloth is a sloth that has been mutated by radiation, making it much larger than a human. His fur is dirty and shaggy, riddled with fungi growing on his back. If you get too close, it shakes itself and throws the poisonous mushrooms at the attackers. However, they are usually peaceful.

Before the war, Isaac Garrahan had several sloths in his family estate, but the sloths escaped before the war broke out. The remaining sloth cages can still be found on the Garrahan estate.

Mega Sloths spawn in the Mire and Cranberry Bog. Some also hang from trees, similar to gulpers. Locations with mega sloth spawns include Southern Belle Motel, Omicron Fissure Site, Tanagra Town, Treetops and between KMAX Transmission and Camp Venture. A mega sloth also spawns at the seasonal Fasnacht event. Also Events like Scorched Earth can spawn Mega Sloths.

Angler

Anglers are no cryptids in the sense of folklore tales, but count as such for the challenges in Fallout 76.

Anglers are a mutation of anglerfish and frogs and have a glowing fishing rod on their head. They usually rest in shallow water and let their rods stick out of the water to attract their prey. They are aggressive and can spit large flaming balls at long distances, requiring some caution when encountering them.

Three Anglers always spawn in Gnarred Shallows (top right of the map), some can also be found at Braxon's Quality Medical Supplies, the Treehouse Village and Pylon V-13. Also at the events “Safe and Sound”, “Spin the Wheel” but also e.g. find them at “Scorched Earth”.

Snallygaster

The Snallygasters are probably one of the most famous FEV experiments, which were created and escaped from the West Tek Research Center. The Snallygaster has six limbs, numerous eyes on its back, and an elongated tongue covered in acidic slime that can quickly hunt down any survivors.

The first variation comes from FEVS-006443 from October 14, 2077 and combines several species. The results were viewed as disturbing by scientists, but provided valuable insight into the performance of recombinant FEV. The live, stable subject behaved normally and was scheduled to be released in Huntersville upon completion of the subsequent experiment. The mutant was able to escape the facility and has since spread throughout Appalachia.

Snallygasters are immune to radiation and take 150% damage from hits to the head.

Spawn points of Snallygasters are the flooded trainyard, Toxic Larry's Meat'n Go, in Charleston between Hornwright Industrial Headquarters and Charleston Capitol Building, Federal Waste Disposal Field HZ-21, Pylon V-13, Kiddie Corner Cabins, Treetops, Hemlock Holes. Snallygasters also spawn at the Scorched Earth event.

Wendigo

Wendigos are mutated humanoids in the post-apocalyptic world of Appalachia who indulge in cannibalism. We experience the story of a person who becomes a Wendigo in the Wendigo Cave. Only a few Wendigos can be named, one of whom is Morris Stevens, the Wendigo Progenitor from the cave.

Wendigo are aggressive and can quickly do a lot of damage in close combat. The loot from Wendigos is up to 8 screws (sometimes up to 11) as well as acid from the teeth.

Wendigo spawn points are Pylon Ambush, Willard Corporate Housing, Garrahan Estate, Fort Defiance, Haven Church, Lewisburg, Freddy Fear's House of Scares, R&D area at Garrahan Mining Headquarters, Mountainside Bed & Breakfast, Big B's Rest Stop, KMAX Broadcast, Seneca Rocks Visitor Center, Watoga Emergency Services, Drop Site C2, Drop Site G3, Firebase LT, Sal's Grinders, Wendigo Cave, Tree near Abby's Bunker. Of course, a lot of Wendigos spawn in the event "A Colossal Problem", the Night Stalker in "One violent Night" is a Wendigo and Wendigos also spawn in "Scorched Earth". And also spawn at random encounter points e.g. Wendigos along with a Wendigo Colossus.

Wendigo Colossus

A Wendigo Colossus is a huge and powerful Wendigo variant that can spawn in some of Appalachia's Nuke Zones. He has 2 additional heads, longer disproportionate limbs and 2 floating legs under the torso.

The most famous wendigo colossus is Earle Williams. Earle Williams is the boss enemy from the event "A Colossal Problem" in the Monongah Mine. In this context, we also experience a little story with his daughter Maggie (Foundation), who asks us to rescue her father. Earle Williams worked at Hornwright Industrial and was replaced by automated mining machines in 2076. Earle Williams was due to finally leave the mine at this time and the mine was to close. Earle and some other drunken townspeople wanted to steal some more things from the mine. While they were still in the mine, the supervisor, Deke Sykes, blew up the entrance to the mine. Maggie tried to dig it out with her bare hands, but was pulled away from doing so by other Mononah residents and told that her father had simply left town. She didn't believe the story and tried to free her father.

Although Earle Williams survived in the mine, his companions gradually died and he became a cannibal and felt his sanity slip away. In 2103, he mutated into a Wendigo Colossus.

The Wendigo Colossus alternates between ranged attacks (acid spitting) and melee attacks with kicks. Another ability is his scream, which causes his enemies to feel "uncontrollable fear" and run away (you can protect yourself against this with "liquid courage").

A Wendigo Colossus has a chance of spawning if an impact zone e.g. hits the forest adjacent to the Prime Fissure Site (for the Scorched Earth event). And of course you have a 100% chance of finding a Wendigo Colossus in the “A Colossal Problem” event with Earle Williams as the boss when a nuclear missile impact zone is placed on the Monongah Mine.

Sheepsquatch

The Sheepsquatch is a cryptid that is said to have existed in the mountains of Appalachia before the Great War. One of the most famous cryptid hunters on the hunt for the Sheepsquatch was Calvin van Lowe, who dedicated his life to finding the cryptid.

Sheepsquatches always spawn at least as a 1-star variant, which makes them harder enemies. During the fight, the Sheepsquatch uses both melee attacks and ranged attacks using poisonous arrows that it shoots from its back in the form of spikes.

The Sheepsquatch spawns at Random Encounter points (see map) as well as at the events "Free Range", "Spin the Wheel", "Project Paradise" and also during Meat Week at the "Primal Cuts" events.

The Beast of Beckley

The Beast of Beckley is a dangerous albino wolf that was already known before the Great War. Raymond Priblo and several others tried to hunt down the Beast of Beckley, but were killed by him.

We only meet Beckley's Beast once in the Van Lowe Quest series, where we also learn the story of Priblo in more detail. There are no other spawns outside of the quest.

Aliens / Zetans

The aliens in Fallout 76 are Zetans and are always hostile. All encounters take the form of attacks. There are hardly any more precise explanations and background information about the aliens' motivations.

The first alien corpses to be found were found in the Enclave Research Facility (Transmission Station 1AT-U03) in chamber Z-05. The aliens in Fallout 76 have been visiting us for some time now in the “Invaders from Above” event.

Even in our daily operations we occasionally encounter aliens as an enemy faction.

Ogua

The Ogua is a turtle-like creature. The Ogua is the target of the Mothman cultists, who want to sacrifice him to the Mothman because they believe that the "ancient" blood of the Ogua holds divine secrets and the ability to see into the past.

We encounter the Ogua again and again in the “Beasts of Burden” event, in which we take up the cultist camp in Cranberry Bog and encounter the Ogua as the boss.

The Ogua can also be found at many random encounter points (see map).

Blue Devil

The Blue Devil is an enigmatic species of creature that has previously been part of cryptid legends from Appalachia.

The Blue Devil, like the Wendigo Colossus, has the ability to put opponents into "uncontrollable fear" by screaming, causing players to run away. However, no “liquid courage” helps against the scream of the blue devil.

The blue devil spawns at the "Safe and Sound" event and at various random encounter points (see map).

Jersey Devil (Atlantic City Part 2: March 2024)

The Jersey Devil is a new cryptid that we will only meet in the upcoming second part of the Atlantic City update. We will find out more about this in the next PTS. Not much is known here at the moment.
